An off-site copy of your system should be retained to protect against site-wide disasters. This article describes how to protect and recover a DATASTOR Shield™ system.
Exporting your dataStor Shield System for disaster recovery
For Shield Professional, you only need to gather and retain the system configuration data.
For Shield Enterprise Protection Server, you must save the data stores as well as the system configuration data.
Saving system configuration data
A file called AiqUtil.exe is automatilcally placed in the installation directory when you install the dataStor Shield products. TheExportfeature of AiqUtil will automatically gather and zip up all configuration information necessary for restoring your dataStor Shield system to its current state. (Note: To recover dataStor Shield Enterprise Protection Server systems, you will also need to save store data. See Saving store data, below.)
Use the Export feature of this program to gather the configuration data as follows:
<dataStor Shield installation directory>aiqutil /export [/tempdir:<path>] [/exportfilepath:<path>] [/exportfilename:<file>] [/nocleanup]
To display AiqUtil help, run aiqutl with no parameters.
Default settings:
- tempdir = %temp%
- export file path = <current directory>
- export file name = <machine.timestamp.export.zip>
- delete temporary (working) files
Saving store data
Note: Saving store data does not apply to dataStor Shield Professional.
For each store you wish to protect, create a Store Copy task using a destination store that has been marked as areplicastore. The destination store should be on an RDX cartridge, an alternate local drive, a network loaction, or another Archive Manager server.
By marking the destination store as a replica store, the original store ID is recorded in the copy.
Importing your dataStor Shield System for disaster recovery
Note: You can import your system to a different computer as long as the operating system is compatible. You cannot go from Windows XP or 2003 to newer Windows operating systems such as Windows 7 or 2008, and vice versa. To update the tasks with a new computer name or different installation path, please refer to knowledge base article "Modifying dataStor Shield Tasks."
1. Install the dastaStor Shield product you wish to recover. If you wait to install your license keys until step 5, you should not have any services to stop in step 3.
2. Close the product's user interface.
3. Stop the services as follows:
From Start -> Run, or from a command prompt, typeservices.msctop open the Services interface. Right-click on each service that starts with 'dataStor Shield' and choose Stop. Just continue to the next step if there are no dataStor Shield services running.
4. From a command prompt, run the utility as follows:
<dataStor Shield installation directory>\aiqutil /import /importfile:<zipfile full path>
to import the zip file contents to the new dataStor Shield product installation using the default settings.
Default settings:
- tempdir = %temp%
Override this by adding/tempdir:<override path>to the command line
- delete temporary files
Override this by adding/nocleanupto the command line
5. Restart the user interface (Start -> All Programs -> dataStor -> <product name>). If the license keys were installed as part of step 1, you're done. If the license keys were not installed as part of step 1, complete the import process by installing them now.
